Inuit Sanaugangit: Art Across Time

Dec 21 - Mar 31

  • Admission: General Admission ($0-18, Indigenous Peoples and youth under 18 are free)

This exhibition is a celebration of sanaugangit (sa-now-gan-eet or sa-now-gah-knee), “art by Inuit”— a survey of artistic expression from approximately 200 BCE until the present day.

Immerse yourself in Inuit art with a staggering selection of nearly 400 works produced by artists from Siberia, Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. Canadian work from the Contemporary Period will share creative highlights from Inuit communities across the Canadian arctic from Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut, and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.

By focusing on highlights from many regions and communities, Inuit Sanaugangit reveals the widely distinctive modes of expression that characterize the art from different regions and time periods. These differences are evidenced in media, subject matter, as well as stylistic and aesthetic approaches.
